Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University ranked 1st among Turkish universities and 217th among world universities in GreenMetric World Universities Ranking in 2015.
Universities are generally ranked according to academic publications and citations, however another ranking takes environmental consciousness and sustainability.
Since 2010, universities have been ranked by GreenMetric according to how “green” they are. The evaluation platform run by University of Indonesia is attended by universities wishing to have their campuses measured according to how “green” they are.
Greenmetric supports internationalisation, draws attention on issues related with sustainability aiming to raise global awareness on environmental consciousness. In this ranking, universities are evaluated, scored and ranked in terms of infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water resources, transportation and education.
The evaluation is conducted by a team of experts from the Rectorship of University of Indonesia. When necessary, the team demands assistance from academic staff from departments related with ecology, sustainability, anthropology, engineering, architecture, city planning and statistics.
Ranked the First for Two Years in Succession
In this ranking Bülent Ecevit University (BEU) has ranked the first among Turkish universities for two years. In 2015, BEU ranked 2017th among world universities and 1st among Turkish universities in Greenmetric World Universities Ranking.
Among the participant universities in Turkey, Özyeğin University ranked the second and Sabancı University ranked the third. University of Nottingham from the UK ranked 1st among world universities.
In 2014, BEU ranked 1st among Turkish universities and 239th among world universities. In the ranking participated by 407 universities from many parts of the world, BEU improved its ranking by 22 and ranked 217thin 2015.
